Through the extraordinary and mysterious lens of mycelium, Mia uncovers solutions to today’s most pressing environmental and conservation challenges.
Leading a microbial ecology laboratory at UConn, she conducts field research in degraded urban and natural ecosystems while exploring host-associated and environmental microbiomes.


Mia actively supports the mycology and scientific community through leadership and mentorship. She serves on the Endowment Committee for the Mycological Society of America (MSA) and is the co-founder of both the MSA Student Section and the MSA Diversity Committee.
At UConn, Mia is the faculty supervisor of the Women in Soil Ecology (WISE) club and mentors students through the Women in Math, Science, & Engineering (WIMSE) program.
